Police have launched an urgent manhunt after a young woman was raped in east London.

The victim, in her 20s, reported she had been attacked in an alleyway near Westfield Stratford City shopping centre and the main train station in Medals Way just before 7pm on Thursday.

Metropolitan Police officers took the rare step of releasing CCTV images of a tall and slim man believed to be in his 20s.

He was wearing a black tracksuit and beige cap.

Scotland Yard said the woman is being supported by specially trained officers.

Detective Constable Ben Dailey, who is working on the investigation, added: “We have carried out a number of enquiries, including recovering CCTV from around the area.
