Unmarked patrol car 'L-plates' a joke

Two police officers are being investigated over a prank that involved an unmarked car, an L-Plate and the popular 'My Family' sticker.

Captured on a dashboard camera, an unmarked police car displaying L-Plates and 'My Family' stickers was filmed pulling a vehicle over on the Eastern Freeway.

Senior police member Superintendent Graeme Collins told Fairfax Radio a member of Victoria Police's Highway Patrol had placed the L-Plates and stickers on the car as a 'practical joke'.

Victoria Police are investigating the incident and insist it is not a method used by the force to deceive motorists.

"I can say wholeheartedly that it's not Victoria Police policy, it's certainly not our practice, it's not professional and it's not condoned," Superintendent Collins told Fairfax Radio.

"We're taking immediate action to make sure this doesn't happen again."

The driver officers pulled over was fined for using a mobile phone.
