YouTuber leaves the platform after 13 years of weekly videos: 'Don't assume the worst'

Tyler Oakley has been a staple on YouTube since he was 18 years old. He’s now 31 and ready for a break.

The vlogger, who has amassed more than 7 million followers over the course of 13 years, announced he’s saying “see you later” to YouTube indefinitely.

“I have been making videos and uploading them every single Tuesday at noon for years and years and years and years and years,” Oakley said in his farewell video. “You can go back and find any single week of my life … and see what I was up to.”

The YouTuber said he’d be spending his time away “working on some stuff that I have always wanted to do,” and that even though he doesn’t know when he will return, he will do so eventually.

“I’ve never really taken a break, and it is now time for me to take a break,” Oakley said. “It might take me a second.”

He assured fans that things are OK with him.

“This is not forever goodbye. This is just like, ‘I’ll see ya in a sec’,” he said. “All is well. Nothing is bad in the worst way possible. Don’t assume the worst.”
