Two men arrested over fatal Melbourne hit-and-run

Two men have been arrested after an alleged hit and run that left a father of four dead and his road worker colleague seriously injured in southeast Melbourne.

A man, 30, with no fixed address was arrested at a property on Boundary Road in Carrum Downs just after 2pm on Thursday.

He has been taken to Frankston police station where he is being interviewed by Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives.

Investigation is ongoing

Police said a Carrum Downs man, 25, was arrested after he attended Frankston police station about 3pm on Thursday.

The second man remains in custody and police said the investigation is ongoing.

Police had been searching for the driver of a red Holden Commodore who went on the run after allegedly hitting and killing Bayswater father Timmy Rakei, 44, in Carrum Downs on Tuesday.

Mr Rakei's 38-year-old workmate suffered severe leg injuries.

Police said investigators are yet to locate a black Hyundai SUV that the driver was seen getting into near the scene of the crash.

Anyone with information on the car's whereabouts is urged to contact police.
