Details emerge about murder-suicide
A man shot his aunt a number of times in front of his mother before turning the gun on himself in a suspected murder-suicide.
The man, 46, lived at a home in Albany Creek, north of Brisbane, with his aunty, 77, and his mother, 88, who was at home when the incident took place.
Queensland Police regional crime coordinator Craig Williams said the man had a registered firearms licence and used a handgun that was registered to him to discharge a number of shots which killed his aunty.
“He then used the firearm on himself and was deceased at the scene,” he said.
“This is a tragic incident and we are assisting the family to the best of our ability.”
Mr Williams confirmed that police had been called to the home a number of times in the last week by someone who lived there, and had dealt with the three people.
He would not comment on whether police should have confiscated the man’s guns on those occasions, but said there was no history of domestic violence between the man and his aunty or mother.
“I am unable to comment on the exact details because it is still under investigation but there had been an altercation which was our initial information,” he said.
“(The mother) was in the dwelling when this occurred and she is assisting us with our inquiries.
“We would ask that any witnesses who may have information in relation to this matter would come forward to police.”
Police want anyone who saw or heard anything in the area of Jambaroo Street to come forward.
