Trump gives remarks on Biden border policies in Michigan: Watch live
Recorded earlier
Former President Trump is visiting Grand Rapids, Mich., Tuesday for the first of two back-to-back appearances in the Midwest.
At the Michigan event, Trump will address a relatively small group of people involved with law enforcement. The former president is expected to speak critically of the Biden administration’s management of border policy, continuing his political career’s longstanding focus on immigration.
In particular, Trump is reportedly planning to point to the recent killing of a woman in Grand Rapids as evidence of the dangers posed by illegal immigration.
The suspect in that crime, who has confessed, is a previously deported citizen of Mexico who was reportedly romantically involved with the victim.
The March 22 killing presents in outline a parallel to the alleged slaying of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley by a migrant from Venezuela. In a stance similar to that taken by Riley’s father, at least one family member of the woman in Michigan has asked the media to refrain from applying a political message her death.
President Biden won west Michigan’s Kent County, where Grand Rapids is located, by a small margin in 2020, although the majority in many of the region’s communities voted Republican.
The former president is expected to speak at 2:30 p.m. EDT.
