Three workmen were forced to escape through a bathroom window after allegedly being threatened by a man armed with a handgun.

The man, 44, has since been charged with a raft of offences after allegedly getting into a standoff with police after the trio made their escape.

Police were called to Fourth Ave in Condell Park about 11am on Thursday by the three workmen.

It is alleged they were threatened with a handgun, before escaping the property through a first-floor bathroom window.

Officers established a perimeter and called for back-up from the Public Order and Riot Squad, the Tactical Operations Unit and Polair.

The operation lasted more than two hours.
