Tribute to Red Dog star

A life-sized tribute to Red Dog star Koko - one of Australia's most- loved canines - will be unveiled at the Dogs' Refuge Home in Shenton Park today.

The seven-year-old red cloud kelpie died in December 2012 after a battle with congestive heart disease.

Koko was an ambassador for the refuge and his death triggered more than $40,000 in donations to the charity.

The meticulously crafted replica took Perth-based artist Britt Mikkelsen more than 200 hours to create.

It shows the much-loved kelpie lying down to symbolise him being at rest at the home.

Red Dog producer and Koko's owner Nelson Woss hoped West Australians would take the time to visit the statue.

"It is fantastic to have a special place and terrific sculpture to remember and celebrate Koko's life and achievements," he said.

The refuge and City of Subiaco commissioned the statue.
