New trend showing Aussies keen to use AI

Australians appear ready to be on the forefront of artificial intelligence tools, according to the latest trend data from internet powerhouse Google.

November’s Google search data shows searches beginning with “how to use AI to …” peaked for Aussie users.

Understanding the technology is also growing, with trend data showing the gap between searching for “what is AI?” and “how to use AI” has narrowed substantially.

But in what could be a sign of the cost of living crunch forcing people to look online for new sources of income, “How to use AI to make money” was the top searched “how to use AI to” search in Australia in 2023.

The ACT is also the top state or territory searching for AI this year, followed by New South Wales and Victoria.

Managing Director Google Australia and New Zealand Mel Silva said Australians are curious about AI, and are looking for opportunities to learn with it, boost their creativity, and create new things.

“As a country, we’ve always been quick to embrace new technologies because so many of the

innovations have been created right here,” Ms Silva said

“But what’s fascinating this time is not only the huge interest in AI but what Australians are looking to do with it now. This interest in AI is a positive sign for Australia as we look to be one of the leaders in the development and adoption of a breakthrough technology.

“It’s important that we support this curiosity in AI by continuing to invest in this technology in a safe and responsible way.”
