'This is tiring': Eerie video shows kayaker's last moments in rough seas
A kayaker filmed himself struggling in rough waters shortly before his body was discovered off the NSW south coast.
Jeremy Worthy, 43, filmed the harrowing footage near Bateman’s Bay, sharing the video to Facebook Live at 12.21pm on Sunday.
Just minutes later at 12.30pm, NSW Police said an empty kayak was found on Long Beach.
“This is tiring,” Mr Worthy said in the video, adding that he had been pushed out further than he wanted to go by the wind and big swells.
Mr Worthy was quite some distance from shore and he can be heard weighing up his options.
He said he wants to head towards Long Beach, but that the waves were probably “crashing” there.
He then ponders about heading to Cullendulla, where the “tide’s going to be ripping out of there now”.
To go the way he planned on going, Mr Worthy told the camera he would have to turn his back on the swell and risk a “big mother wave”.
“It’s not very peaceful, is it?” Mr Worthy said.
“Not very calming.”
Toward the end of the clip, Mr Worthy said a friend had recommended the spot to him and that he was going to take advantage of a less rough current and get back to shore.
A previous video captured Mr. Worthy fishing from his kayak, while paddling with his other hand.
Both posts are now inundated with messages from Facebook friends saying how much the kayaker will be would be missed.
NSW police said they discovered a body in the water shortly after receiving a call about the kayak washing up on the shore of Long Beach.
An officer retrieved the body and performed CPR until paramedics arrived.
“Despite best efforts, the man died at the scene,” NSW Police said in the statement.
