A two-day search for a camper who went missing in Victoria’s high country came to a tragic conclusion on Sunday when the man was found dead.

Steven Clough, 58, was last seen leaving his campsite at Skipworth Reserve in Kevington at 2pm on Friday.

An hour earlier, he had texted his partner to let her know he would be riding his dirt bike near Mount Terrible that afternoon.

Mr Clough promised to let her know when he was finished, but he was never heard from again.

His disappearance led to a large-scale search of the bushland, which involved more than 70 police and support staff on Sunday.

After two days of searching, police found Mr Clough’s body on Big River Road, Enochs Point about 1.40pm on Sunday afternoon.

Police believe the Melbourne resident died in a dirt bike crash.

The exact circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be determined and police confirmed they will prepare a report for the coroner.

In a statement, they thanked the volunteers involved in the “significant search” for Mr Clough.
