A family has been left heartbroken after a toddler was found dead after going missing on a rural property.

Luka Huddle, two, was pulled from a dam at a property in Lara, near Geelong on Tuesday night.

His body was found after he went missing at 5.30pm.

The little boy had been helping his mum Karin Huddle and grandmother Sharon Huddle, “rug up” their horses when he ran off, according to the Geelong Advertiser.

Luka is believed to have run off with the family puppy named Poppy.

The two women desperately searched the property before calling the police.

During the search Poppy appeared from the bushes covered in water, sparking more panic.

“I’ve gone ‘where’s the dam’ because I’ve seen that she’s wet,” Karin said.

“We’re thinking, that dogs come out to inform us there’s something gone wrong.”

Luka was later found unresponsive by police.

Sharon said she had to fight through police officers to see her grandson’s body, she wanted to say goodbye.

“When I hugged my grandson, he was that cold.”

A fundraising page has been set up to support the family.

In the page Luka has been described as a “beautiful cheeky” little boy.

“Luka was always full of life and energy.

“Most recently, in May 2024, we had a family gathering at Karin, Luka and Sharon’s home, with our extended family. I was blessed to spend 4 nights with them in their home and share the joy and love of this beautiful little family.”

Police are investigating and will prepare a report for the coroner.
