A three-month old child died in hospital two days after his mother died in a crash in Queensland’s southeast.

Police believe the woman was driving on Caboolture River Rd, north of Brisbane, on Friday when just before 2.30pm her car left the road and crashed into a tree.

The woman, 33, was declared dead at the scene while the boy, who had been thrown from an approved baby seat, was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.

Burpengary Forensic Crash Unit Sergeant Greg Price said on Sunday the cause of the crash was under investigation and that the car had collided with “several large trees”.

“The vehicle suffered extensive damage as a result of the crash. We are seeking any witnesses to the crash or any dashcam from the crash,” Sargent Price told the media.

“We are seeking what the actions of the driver were prior to the crash. Most of the people that called in [on Friday] have come across the crash, they weren’t witnesses.”

The Forensic Crash Unit are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and were appealing for anyone with information about the incident to contact police.
