Tourist killed by snake in Northern Territory

A tourist has died from a snake bite while holidaying in the Northern Territory last week.

NT police and the territory’s Parks, Wildlife and Heritage Division of the Department of Tourism confirmed to Yahoo News Australia that the man died not long after being bitten.

“An independent traveller aged 68 died on 23 October 2019 as a result of a snake bite he received while camping in Garig Gunak Barlu (Cobourg) National Park,” a spokesperson from NT’s Park and Wildlife said.

The snake was a western brown snake.

The man was visiting from interstate and travelling with a friend, authorities said.

“The man presented to the Ranger Station and treatment immediately commenced in consultation with the District Medical Officer and CareFlight,” the spokesperson said.

Sadly he lost consciousness and later died.
