Touching act after Bondi stabbing massacre
Surf club members have paddled out from Bondi at first light in honour of those injured and killed in the Bondi Junction stabbing attack.
Tuesday’s tribute comes as four patients remain in various hospitals across the city, 10 days on from the attack.
Members of 12 surf clubs from between Bondi and Bronte gathered before dawn Tuesday morning, and paddled into the sea in a sombre mark of solidarity with victims, their families and the wider community.
At least 160 board riders formed a circle out in the water, their brightly coloured club shirts illuminated by the day’s first light.
Six victims were killed in the attack at the nearby Bondi Junction Westfield shopping centre; Cheng Yixuan, 27, Pikria Darchia, 55, Ashlee Good, 38, Dawn Singleton, 25, Faraz Ahmed Tahir, 30, and Jade Young, 47.
Attacker Joel Cauchi, 40, was shot dead by a police officer, after having physically injured 12 additional people.
On Monday night NSW Health said a female victim had been discharged from St Vincent Hospital in the past day.
Four patients, two male and two female, all remain in stable conditions in various hospitals.
