Tom Hollander reveals he was accidentally sent a 'seven-figure' Marvel cheque meant for Tom Holland

Tom Hollander has revealed how he has been mistaken for fellow English actor, Tom Holland, despite being 29 years his senior.

The White Lotus actor, 56, explained their similar names have caused confusion in the film industry so much so he once accidentally received the 27-year-old’s “seven-figure sum” pay-slip while represented by the same talent agency.

During an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, the host asked Hollander, who stars in the upcoming series, Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, whether he was often confused with the action star.

To which the Night Manager star answered: “Yeah, it’s been very difficult ’cause, you know, I was here first. But he’s enormously famous.”

After clarifying that he “obviously” wasn’t mistaken for Holland in person, Hollander joked that people only confused him for the Spider-Man star in a “nonvisual context”.

He continued: “I’m introduced to somebody’s very excited, then very confused and disappointed children. And people in the accounts department of my agency got confused.”

The British actor then went on to recall the “terrible” moment he visited a friend earning £300 for a stage show and felt smug because he’d been paid £30,000 for a BBC show.

However, the smile was quickly wiped from his face, when he accidentally received a pay-slip from his agency informing him that his first box-office bonus from The Avengers had come through, which was an “astonishing amount of money” meant for Holland.

“It was an astonishing amount of money,” Hollander said. “It was not his salary, it was his first box-office bonus. Not the whole box-office bonus, the first one. And it was more money than I’d ever... it was a seven-figure sum.

“He was 20, or something. So my feeling of smugness that you remember I had in the first half disappeared completely. But that’s showbiz!”

Hollander is an incredibly accomplished actor who has appeared in several major films, including the 2005 version of Pride & Prejudice, and appeared in the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise.

He also had starred in Gosford Park, In The Loop, and the second season of The White Lotus opposite Jennifer Coolidge.
