Toddler abandoned at op shop with bag of clothes and a note

A toddler has been found abandoned with a note attached to him outside an op shop just days out from Christmas.

The little boy was left outside a Goodwill store in the US state of Mississippi on Monday about 9.40am (local time), police said.

Given his young age, the boy was unable to give any names of relatives or his parents. Police estimate he is around two years old.

He had a note with him but the details of it have not been released. He also had a bag containing a change of clothes.

Police were able to track down CCTV of a man and a woman along with their car.

The man, wearing a cowboy hat, dropped the boy off, police said.

Both adults were gone when police arrived at the scene.

The boy is now in child protection, with authorities saying he is well and being cared for.

Police said with the help of the FBI a person was taken into custody but they will not reveal names or charges.

Police released CCTV images of two people who are believed to be associated with the boy. A man holds the child's hand in one image, while a woman in a white Mickey Mouse top walks down the street.
