A terrifying video has surfaced showing the moment a woman’s “stalker” climbed her balcony and broke into her apartment.

Hannah Viverette was filming herself inside her apartment in the US state of Maryland dancing to music when she was suddenly distracted by a man entering her room on Sunday about 10.20pm (local time).

Noticeably shaken, she asks the man “who are you?” several times, with him apparently responding in another language.

She requests he “please get out” and backs away from the door before he asks: “Am I your friend?”

“No, please get out,” she responds, but he persists and asks her, “Are you sure?”

“Who are you? Please get out of my apartment right now,” she demands.

The woman snatches her phone, which was still filming, and walks to exit her apartment.

A figure wearing a bright orange top can be seen peering through the door inside the room, but vanishes after several requests to “get out”.

The panicked woman then knocks frantically on the door of a neighbour and asks to be let inside.

She uploaded the video to TikTok this week, writing in its caption the experience was the “scariest moment of my life”.

“That moment when you’re recording yourself dancing and your stalker climbs your second story balcony to break in,” she wrote.

Ms Viverette also shared her experience to Facebook, saying she had seen the man “almost daily in my apartment complex area since moving in, but never spoke a word to”.

She claimed he had made a point to watch her and make “many uncomfortable advances” over several months.

“For so long I brushed it off, assuming him to ‘just be a creep’,” she wrote.

‘Handled that like a boss’

Ms Viverette said the man lived in the apartment complex across the street from her and after she reported him to police he was arrested, but released on bail the following day.

She called on other potential victims of the man to “speak up”.

“I refuse to live in fear and I refuse to let him continue doing this to me or anyone,” she wrote.

The video has been viewed more than 19 million times in less than 24 hours, with more than 68,000 people sharing their thoughts in comments.

“That is so scary! I’m so happy you were recording and that you have proof,” one person wrote.

Others praised the woman for the way she managed to remain calm while talking to the man.

“Nobody giving her credit for how well she handled that,” someone said.

“That’s horrifying. I’m so sorry. You handled that like a boss,” another wrote.

Many also expressed gratitude to the neighbour who didn’t hesitate when she asked for help.
