Threatening note about neighbour's dog stuns community: 'Gutless'

A dog owner got a nasty shock when he found a handwritten note in his mail box, threatening his beloved pet.

The strongly-worded letter called the dog a "f**king joke" after the angry neighbour blamed their sleepless night on the dog that supposedly wouldn't stop barking, but the man insisted the barking dog in question was not his own.

"We have had to listen to this piece of s**t bark all night. It is now 2am and it's still barking," the letter said.

The man who lives in Helensvale, on the Gold Coast, shared the message on Facebook and explained his dog had not been barking through the night, and instead alleged it was another neighbour's dog who lives behind him.

The neighbour wrote that they would be emailing the council to complain about the dog.

"By the way it would be terrible if it got sick", the anonymous neighbour wrote to sign off the letter.

Community bark back at 'disgusting' letter

A picture of the crumpled piece of paper was posted to a local community Facebook page, Helensvale Community, alongside the admin's note expressing that neighbourly disputes should be handled in a more civil manner.

"Threatening behaviour is not the way!", the admin stated.

Many social media users branded the neighbour as "disgusting" and "gutless" for hiding behind a handwritten note instead of initiating a civil conversation by simply knocking on the man's door to resolve the issue.

"That's disgusting and it's a threat to hurt an animal," one Facebook comment said.

"Poor dog must have reason to bark. Total gutless wonder. Glad not my neighbour," another wrote.

The recipient was also urged to contact the police before the angry neighbour acted on their threat and attempted to harm the dog as implied by the note.

"Have you got a security camera just in case they try anything?" one worried woman said.

Council's advice on nuisance dogs

The City of Gold Coast advises that neighbours should talk with one another if a nuisance dog makes persistent or excessive noise, encouraging communication to resolve the manner. If the issue continues, members of the community are told to speak to the council who will investigate the issue on their behalf.
