Wrong way crash accused in court

The woman accused of injuring two people when she allegedly drove on the wrong side of the Kwinana Freeway has been told she will now be charged with dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm while under the influence of alcohol.

Amanda Louise McMahon, 44, made a brief appearance in court relating to the crash on May 3 this year when police allege she crashed head-on with a Holden Acclaim when she drove her Commodore on the wrong side of the southbound lanes of the freeway in Salter Point on May 3.

Sarah Lavell, the 19-year-old passenger in the other car, received life-threatening injuries in the crash.

Ms Lavell was trapped in the wrecked car for an hour before firefighters could free her and was later warned she may never walk again.

Ms McMahon had been charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, dangerous driving occasioning bodily harm and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Today, prosecutors said they intended to amend the more serious charges to reflect the allegation of drunkenness behind the wheel.

They will officially be amended when Ms McMahon next appears in court in July.

As part of her bail conditions, Ms McMahon can not contact Ms Lavell.

She said nothing as she left court.
