House Rules: Sleeping beauty

Habitat asked the House Rules teams to share their secrets for four of the best room reveals of the series so far. A subtle 60s vibe runs through the main bedroom and entranceway of Tasmanian team Cassie and Matt, which was renovated by Ben and Danielle.

Cassie and Matt’s home proved a challenge, one which Queensland team Ben and Danielle rose to when renovating the hallway and main bedroom.

“We wanted it to look like everything had been considered and nothing left to chance,” Ben said. “I really think we achieved this.”

The new hallway features a lamp from Keeki, wallpaper from Emily Ziz, furniture from Retrojan and accessories found at St Vincent de Paul.

Ben and Danielle agreed their favourite feature of the completed zone is the plywood feature wall in the bedroom from K&D Warehouse, which plays backdrop to a scalloped Hobart Interiors custom-made bedhead. “The recess and the mirror behind it looked great,” Danielle said.

“It was pretty full-on but it was well designed and well finished and for us the acid test is ‘If it were in our house would we love it?’ and that was a big yes for our zone ... probably not the pink front door though!” Danielle said.

Contrary to this, Ms Moore was glad the team kept the original front door as it retained the character of the home and she felt the designer wallpaper was a great move.

To create space in the bedroom, Ben and Danielle derided to open up the ceiling. “It was such a good decision and made the world of difference,” Ben said.

Mr Snell said the raked ceiling gave the space majesty and the plywood wall earthed the room with a great nod to the 60s — one of Cassie and Matt’s House Rules. He said the cool tones of the bedhead, the cushions and the aqua wall also worked together as they were all from a similar colour palette.

Lighting from Beacon Lighting and blinds from Carpet Court pair with linen from Spotlight and an oversized chair from Sokol.

House Rules airs on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 7.30pm, Thursdays at 8pm and Sundays at 7pm on Seven/GWN7. For more information, visit yahoo7.com.au/houserules.
