A woman has been taken into police custody after a fire at a house in Perth's south-eastern suburbs.

Investigators are trying to piece together the circumstances surrounding this morning's fire at the house in Kewdale which caused an estimated $300,000 damage.

Firefighters were called to the Ashley Avenue property about 8.15am amid concerns smoke could be seen coming from the house.

Emergency services crews arrived to find the occupants of the house - three children and an adult - outside "safe and well", a Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said.

A DFES chaplain was called to the property.

A puppy was rescued by firefighters and given oxygen at the scene.

It took about 20 firefighters nearly 30 minutes to extinguish the blaze.

The fire is being treated as suspicious.

The extent of the damage and its cause are yet to be determined.
