Driver dies in crash with light pole

A driver died after a single-vehicle crash south-east of Perth this morning.

It is understood the car, a Toyota Corolla sedan, was travelling east on Ranford Road near Bannister Road in Canning Vale when the driver lost control and hit a light pole about 3am.

"He lost control on a bend and struck a metal light pole before hitting a tree," a police spokeswoman said.

"The man, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, died at the scene of the crash.

"Police are investigating whether speed was a factor in the crash."

Police were urging motorists to avoid the intersection this morning because of “significant” traffic congestion.

Major Crash Investigators are investigating.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
