Train paid parking pain

The Public Transport Authority has indicated it will consider installing more paid parking machines at busy train stations if demand continues to rise.

Existing paid parking machines were moved or deactivated before this week's rollout of the compulsory $2 daily charge and replaced by just one or two SmartParker ticket machines at the exit of each station's carpark.

The change has resulted in some commuters buying a parking ticket facing a longer walk back to their cars. Yesterday's wet weather led to complaints from passengers, with Murdoch commuters forced to queue in the rain to pay for parking.

"Transperth has made a very deliberate decision to 'bank' both the SmartParker and cash machines close to one another and near to each station entrance to make SmartParker a more attractive option for passengers," PTA spokesman David Hynes said.

"We will continue to monitor demand for the SmartParker machines and see if we need to add any more at certain stations."
