Cruising Guide: Carnival Legend

Such was the success of Carnival Spirit's full-time season based in Sydney that Carnival Legend was sent to join its sister ship late last year. Ahead of its first season Down Under, Legend entered dry dock and was thoroughly "Aussiefied" - transformed from top to bottom to make sure it satisfied local tastes.

The 2124-passenger ship was given new carpets and fittings, family cabins and Australian power sockets. There is also a new sushi restaurant, lolly shop and the Red Frog pub, drinks menus with Aussie beers, coffee machines that brew a latte or a long black, the Punchliner Comedy Club where local comedians will vie for laughs, a water park and a giant waterslide known as Green Thunder.

Carnival has also brought classic board games such as Connect 4 and Yahtzee to life in Hasbro: The Game Show and added Playlist Productions - punchy performances aided by special effects. Combined with the existing buffets, steakhouse, cafes and Camp Carnival supervised kid's club, Legend and Spirit are decked out as great family ships.

And while the kids are busy, parents will find much to amuse at the piano bar, night club, spa and Serenity adults-only retreat.
