Young pace ace Moody elevated to the top tier

Rewarded: Hilton Cartwright

WA paceman David Moody has been rewarded for his strong showing at the end of the Sheffield Shield season with an upgrade to a senior Warriors contract.

Moody, who turned 20 this week, will receive a contract worth at least $60,000 after claiming 10 wickets in his three shield matches this summer.

WA have 10 pacemen on their books with promising teenager Jhye Richardson, who starred for the Australian under-19 team against England last month, included on the rookie list.

Rookies Will Bosisto, Hilton Cartwright and Matt Dixon were upgraded to senior contracts while five youngsters joined promising batsman Jaron Morgan as new rookies.

Batsman-wicketkeeper Josh Inglis, who scored 246 for Joondalup in their winning club grand final, has been identified as WA’s next gloveman behind Sam Whiteman.

State players received retainers between $60,000 and $176,000 last season.

However, Big Bash League deals, match payments and prize money meant many players earned more than $300,000.

Twenty-two of the 27 State places are filled by locally-produced players.
