I want to win title inside two years: Plummer
Norma Plummer won't make any decisions about her future as Australian Diamonds coach until after the world netball championships, but she intends to turn West Coast Fever into a championship-winning team.
Plummer will head to Perth in September after being named as Fever's coach for the next two years.
A world championship-winning player and coach, Plummer had numerous offers but said WA's proposal provided the kind of challenge she was looking for.
West Coast have been bottom of the Australian group since the ANZ Championship's inception.
"I have been coaching for a long time and when you get players to follow you can get some fantastic rewards," Plummer said.
"I would naturally like to see Fever win the competition within the first two years of my contract.
"I am coming over to put my heart and soul into the job because I don't do anything by half measure."
The Victorian said she would have to recruit some key players.
She said the Fever had some excellent players but some wouldn't take the next step and wouldn't be part of a winning team.
But Plummer won't start recruiting until after next month's world championships in Singapore.
"I want that out of the way before I start talking to players about the Fever," she said.
"I don't know if I am going to throw my hat into the ring for the national coaching job but I think Netball Australia is being smart by restructuring their high performance program.
"I have had a fantastic time with Diamonds but I have also been with the AIS and the under-21 program for 12 years.
"I love to coach on a daily basis and have found it tough watching games rather than having the hands-on experience and that is something I have discussed with Netball Australia."
