A fearless centre-half, Liverpool-born Lyons played for the Toffees 390 times during the 1970s and early 1980s, scoring 48 times.

Lyons has been in WA for more than a decade and has coached at Stirling Lions and Cockburn City, as well as helping bring through a number of talented youngsters at ECU Joondalup.

He was unable to get back to England to attend Wednesday's big night at Liverpool's St George's Hall, so his daughter Francesca collected his award from Lyons' former teammates Graeme Sharp and Mark Higgins.
