Sprint king Barakey has run his last race.

Trainer Jim Taylor and connections announced the Group 1 winner's retirement after he was a beaten favourite in Sunday's Northam Stakes.

Barakey burst on the scene with a perfect record from his first 11 starts, claiming feature wins in the Northam Stakes, Colonel Reeves Stakes and Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes in 2012.

The Key Business gelding suffered his first defeat in the Newmarket Handicap at Flemington the following year, pulling up with a severe knee injury that required surgery.

Despite ongoing issues, Barakey burst the bubble of rising star Smoko to win the Goodwood Sprint (1300m) at Belmont Park last winter.

He finishes his career with 13 wins from 17 starts for more than $830,000 in prize money.

He was raced by Taylor's stable foreman Aristos Mihalopoulos and his uncle, Terry Zeppos.
