Kerr at home as Glory get cracking

Samantha Kerr starred in Sydney FC's W-League championship two years ago and is aiming to fire her hometown club to similar success this season.

The Matildas attacker has returned to Perth Glory as one of six Australian internationals in a new-look squad that shapes as a serious finals contender under coach Jamie Harnwell.

Kerr, 21, has spent the past two years broadening her horizons with Sydney and US club Western New York Flash, and was excited to begin the next phase of her decorated career in WA.

"Perth's home and I've always been really proud of where I'm from," Kerr said.

"It's good to go away and play with big teams like Sydney, but I really wanted to come back.

"I feel like I owed it to Perth to come back and I think I'm back for good now."

Glory open the W-League season at their new home venue, Ashfield Sports Club, against Brisbane Roar tomorrow.

Kerr has been joined by fellow Matildas Caitlin Foord, Mackenzie Arnold and Alanna Kennedy as new signings, while Kate Gill and Collette McCallum are familiar international faces.

Canadian international defender Shelina Zadorsky will add class in defence.

Zadorsky is one of a host of outstanding overseas players in the W-League this season, which Kerr believes will be the most competitive yet.

Many players will be vying for spots in their respective national teams with the 2015 World Cup just around the corner.

"There's been a lot of player movement and I think it will be the most fair it's been," Kerr said.

"There's not one team that's really stacked and it's an even playing field."

All six of Glory's Matildas representatives will play tomorrow.

Brisbane, who lost last season's grand final to Melbourne Victory, will be without German goalkeeper Nadine Angerer (national duty) and Matildas forward Amy Chapman.
