Ricciardos break out bubbles for big win



Joe Ricciardo says it has been a long journey to son Daniel's first Formula One win.

Joe told 6PR radio this morning he could not attend the Canadian GP in Montreal to witness his son’s first win but the family had celebrated with champagne yesterday.

He said he had yet to speak to his son but was looking forward to giving him “a big hug” when he next saw him.

“The first win’s pretty special, of course we’re happy, we’re very proud of him,” Mr Ricciardo said.

“It’s been a long journey… when you finally achieve something especially on the world stage what can you say?”

He said his son had long wanted to follow his dream of F1 racing and his parents had supported him “like any other parent would do”.

“It’s what he wanted to do … you’ve got to let the kids do what they want to do,” he said.

Ricciardo was close to a victory in his first race with Red Bull on home turf in Melbourne at the Australian Grand Prix in March, but after finishing second, he was disqualified for a technical infringement.
