Rams reel from loss

Rockingham Rams coach Craig Otto says the weekend’s loss to the Mandurah Mustangs is one of the worst he has been involved in.

Rockingham Rams returned home with their heads in their hands after a 36-point loss to Mandurah Mustangs at the weekend.

The bottom-of-the-ladder side defeated the Rams 15.15 (105) to 2.2 9.15 (69) on their home turf at Bendigo Bank Stadium in their first win for the season on Saturday.

The Rams took their fifth consecutive defeat to heart, with coach Craig Otto labelling it one of the worst losses he had coached in more than 15 years.

“As a coach, I don’t have a lot to say except that it was a bad loss,” he said.

“To Mandurah’s credit, they were better than us on the night and outplayed us over four quarters of football.”

Otto said the league side, which represented the Rams on Saturday night, was one of the youngest that had ever run out for the club in his time as coach.

“Three colts players (under-18s) Brandon Smith, Cody Schnaars and Justin Mote made their league debuts,” he said.

“Also in the league side on Saturday night, players that are colts eligible were Shaun Norman, Kyle Hincliffe, Luke Humphries and Nick Gooderson.

“These four players have a total of approximately 30 league games combined.”

Otto said the side was not faring well after losing senior players in the off season and was plagued by a growing injury list that had seen more than 15 changes in the past two weeks.

He said the team was desperately looking for more senior players that wanted a game of football to help out the reserves side.

Best on ground for the Rams included M. Anderson, P. Mcgennisken, S. Kenny, C. Oliver, C. Reeves, K. Fissioli.

Standouts for the Mustangs included C. McMahen, S. Pavlovic, J. Walton, S. Woods, G. Nelson and A. Thomas.

Rams president Steve Boyd agreed the match was a massive disappointment.

“We will need to reassess how we need to go about playing in order to win games,” he said.

Mr Boyd highlighted the tremendous effort by the colts’ boys who stepped up for the match.

Round 6 of the Peel Football League was also painful for the Baldivis Brumbies, which received a 68-point thumping from Centrals at Mundijong oval, losing 20.11 (131) to 8.15 (63).
