Match Report: Busselton v HBL

Busselton stormed home in the second half on Saturday night at Sir Bovell Park to defeat Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault by 10 points.

The Magpies had a tough time breaking through the Lions' defence and were plagued by their own accuracy problems, eventually holding on for a 9.14 (68) to 9.4 (58) win.

Both teams showed strong defence in the opening minutes of the game, but it couldn't stop the Lions from managing to get through an early goal.

It was quickly answered by Busselton's Brent Hall, but Brayden Prentice fired back, securing another for the Lions.

Busselton managed to hold the Lions to just two goals for the first quarter, but their own accuracy was off, barely holding onto the lead going into the first break 1.8 (14) to 2.0 (12).

Ashley Thornton marked for the Lions just a second too late after the first-quarter siren, but made up for it in the opening minutes of the second with an easy goal, putting them in the lead.

The Lions enjoyed a goal courtesy of Dylan Heasman, who followed it with another not long after to extend a comfortable lead 5.1 (31) to 1.8 (14).

Steve Cameron fired back for the Magpies' first goal for the quarter, but celebrations were short-lived as Brayden Harris soccered through another goal for the Lions.

Both teams had trouble with accuracy before Busselton managed another goal, bringing the difference to 10 points at half-time.

The Lions attacked hard at the start of the second, but had their own issues with accuracy, only managing a behind before Busselton's Cameron managed another goal.

Busselton gradually chipped away at the deficit before Nathan Bradbury booted through a goal to bring the Magpies back into the lead, 5.11 (41) to 6.3 (39).

It was a tough contest for both and the Lions managed to jump back into the lead courtesy of a goal via Ashley Thornton, but it didn't last long as Busselton answered back, with Cameron managing to hold off a tackle long enough to get the ball through.

Prentice managed another goal for the Lions while Busselton struggled with fumbles and dropped marks before Cameron came through for his fifth for the game, bringing the score to its final tally of 9.14 (68) to 9.4 (58).
