SW triathlete sets sights on world's best

Bunbury triathlete Ryan Bailie has continued his great form in 2015, placing 11th in the latest round of the ITU World Triathlon Series in Japan.

Bailie is eighth in the series following his great run in Yokohama, when he completed the event in just 1:48.29 - about 90 seconds behind the winner and series leader, Olympic silver medallist Spaniard Javier Gomez Noya.

The 25-year-old finished fifth in the Auckland round and ninth in the Gold Coast event earlier this year, positioning himself for a big second half of the series where he will look to break into the top five.

Bailie said he went straight from Japan after racing the Yokohama WTS into a training camp in northern Italy.

"It's great to be back here preparing for the rest of the season as it starts to roll into summer soon here," he said.

"I wouldn't say my performances have increased hugely this year I have just been a lot more consistent for the start of the year compared to previous years with my worst performance being a 14th at Abu Dhabi WTS at the start of the year.

"I still wouldn't say I'm anywhere near peak fitness with the key goals this year being the Rio Test event in August and the Grand Final WTS in Chicago in September.

"It's a long season with key races where you want to peak."

Bailie is now in England where he will compete in the London leg of the series.
