The Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers began their three-week away stint with a hard fought 14-point win against the Willetton Tigers on Saturday night.

Tre Nichols hit 34 points and fellow import Brian Voelkel brought down 19 rebounds as the Slammers defeated the Tigers 116 to 102.

Despite still being without tall players Jordan Hickert (injury) and Trent Worthington (holiday) the Slammers never seemed troubled on the way to their 11th win of the season.

Playing-coach Ty Harrelson and captain Clive Weeden were also instrumental in the victory, with both veterans scoring 22 points in another all-round display by the seemingly all-conquering Slammers outfit.

Willetton's Nicholas Cody tried his best to counterattack for the home side, scoring 25 points and grabbing 17 rebounds, but unfortunately for the Tigers he was the only player to pass 20 points as they were unable to keep up with the Slammers' scoring power.

Wade Hitchcock returned to the starting line-up in the absence of a number of stars and had an impact straight away, scoring 17 points while Voelkel also chipped in with 16 points and eight assists.

Meanwhile in the Women's State Basketball League the Slammers were unable to continue their momentum, losing to the Willetton Tigers 84 to 75.

Co-captain Kate Fielding was the star for the Slammers with 20 points and four steals, but unfortunately she was unable to carry her side to a second straight win.

Import Deonica McCormick was once again off target, hitting just four field goals from 19 attempts to shoot at a lowly 21 per cent.

For the Tigers it was Louella Tomlinson (28 points and 10 rebounds) and Zoe Harper (19 points and 16 rebounds) who were dominant.
