Margaret River residents are invited to join the town's first community-wide AFL tipping competition, which kicked off last week.

St Thomas Moore Primary School's parents and friends group started the competition last week to raise funds for school projects, with 55 to 60 per cent of profits to be used for prize money.

Competition organiser Jennifer Murphy said residents could register on the tipping website using the password "winner".

Mrs Murphy said people needed to pay a $50 entry fee by the fifth round of the competition.

She said she hoped the competition would "get the community banter going and build up rivalry".

"There are a lot of small competitions in individual workplaces," she said. "But none that have this level of prize money. None that are this focused on the community."

Mrs Murphy said a $50 prize would be given to each week's winner, with an end-of-year prize for the overall winner that would grow as more people signed up.
