Workshops to give athletes edge

Western Power South West regional manager David McMillan and South West Academy of Sport chief executive officer Bernice Butlion are looking forward to the free community workshops.

THE South West Academy of Sport and Western Power have teamed up to give back to the community through a series of free workshops.

Over the coming months, seminars designed to give athletes and coaches the edge in a number of areas will be held in Bunbury and Manjimup.

The first session in Manjimup will be on managing junior workloads presented by West Coast Eagles high performance manager Glenn Stewart, who will also talk about injury cause and prevention at an event in Bunbury in May.

Then in June, SWAS footy coach Jamie Douse will look at high performance coaching at a workshop in Bunbury.

SWAS chief executive officer Bernice Butlion said the academy was delighted to be able to provide opportunities for members of the community to learn and grow.

"Thanks to the generous support of Western Power, we are able to put on a series of free events that aim to benefit South West residents," she said.

"We encourage people to come along and hopefully gain tips that they can apply to their daily life or on the sports field."

Western Power South West regional manager David McMillan said the workshops would provide a valuable community service.

"The workshops are a great opportunity for young athletes to gain valuable tools and knowledge that will enable them to achieve their goals," he said.

"At Western Power, we know the value of preparation and training - it's how we approach our work every day - which is why we are proud to partner with the academy in helping South West athletes learn new skills to succeed."
