People were left wondering what they saw yesterday afternoon at Kingston Primary School when teachers and children gathered around the school after the last siren.

Kingston Primary School principal Alan Kidd said there were reports of an incident near the school at the weekend, so he asked his staff to form a “circle of unity”.

“We had a report on the weekend that there was a bit of stranger danger in the area,” Mr Kidd said.

“Whenever I sense any undesirable activity near the school I get the school to show a sense of unity and community.

“We ask our staff to do a circle of unity around the school so if there were any undesirables around the area they wouldn't come near the school.”

Teachers donned high visual vests as they farewelled children after school.

“Schools are the hubs of the community,” he said.

“It’s a policy that we show unity and strength for the community.”

A number of stunned onlookers took to social media to praise the actions of the school and express their community pride.
