BUNBURY Community Radio has given a warm reception to a funding boost as the station prepares to go on air.

The station received $20,000 from the South West Development Commission to help with the installation of equipment at Dalyellup College.

Bunbury organisations received $131,225 of the $370,000 allocated to the South West with The Bunbury Musical Comedy Group, Koombana Bay Sailing Club and Leschenault Catchment Council also included.

Radio station chairman Graham Harvey said the money was a "sensational contribution" and it would help the organisation set up equipment such as mixing boards and control panels.

"I'm optimistic about getting on air in March or April and we'll be doing some on-air tests but there is no set date for when we'll officially be on," he said.

Dalyellup College principal Jeff Macnish said having the station on their campus could benefit the school's students.

"As well as promoting the region, it's a good link to the media for students and there could be opportunities for work experience with the state-of-the-art equipment at Bunbury Community Radio," he said.

"Perhaps we could even become a media specialist school."

Bunbury MLA John Castrilli said the money for BCR would have a flow-on benefit in the future by helping community groups, sporting clubs and not-for-profit organisations to spread the word about their services or events.
