Tractor fans in paradise

It was a tractor lover’s paradise on Saturday just outside of Pemberton at the second annual State Mouldboard Ploughing Competition.

The event was supported by the Warren Agriculture Society and held at John and Danny Omodei’s property on Vasse Highway.

The event featured 18 vintage and four modern day tractors and brought in spectators from around the South West.

Bunbury man Dani Oosthouzen won the vintage category and Manjimup’s Alan Parker won the overall prize.

Event organiser Gerald Richings said it was a fantastic day that reminded him of his younger years competing in ploughing competitions.

“We had considerably more tractors than last year when we ran the event for the first time,” he said.

“It was overwhelming to have people travel from places like Albany, Harvey, Brunswick, Margaret River and Collie to attend the event.”

Mr Richings said the event’s success could also be attributed to its location at the Omodei’s property.

“I’ve wanted to do an event like this for years and my fellow organiser Bryan Hickman got in touch with John and Danny about holding it at their property, ” he said.

“They are great people and they saw the potential of the event last year and have helped it grow.”

Mr Richings said his passion for mouldboard ploughing competitions came from his younger days in England.

“When I joined junior farmer organisations we spent our weekends and a lot of our time competing in ploughing events,” he said.
