Man dies in Margaret River crash

A man has died and three others injured following a fatal head-on collision on Bussell Highway about 8.10pm on Sunday night.

The incident happened near the Margaret River airstrip as a blue Toyota Corolla travelled South along the highway while a silver Mazda 3 was being driven North.

Margaret River and Dunsborough Volunteer Fire and Rescue volunteers worked to free those trapped in the crash but the 26-year-old Mazda 3 driver died.

The two female passengers were airlifted to Royal Perth Hospital by the RAC Rescue Helicopter which landed at the Margaret River Football Oval.

Margaret River Sergeant Brett Cassidy said the pair was seriously injured.

The incident forced the road closure of Bussell Highway for most of the night and takes the Easter road toll to four for long weekend.

Sgt Cassidy said police are investigating the incident and no more details would be released until the families had been advised.

Police ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
