Teen's dreams fly
A remote control model plane event being held near Northcliffe this weekend is the result of the passion and drive of a 13-year-old boy.
Michael Keller decided to organise the event after he found out the Northcliffe Community Resource Centre was offering grants for community projects.
With the help of a $500 grant from the Northcliffe CRC, Michael was able to organise the inaugural event to be held at his parents’ property this weekend.
“I was pretty pleased with myself for being able to organise this,” he said.
Michael said he thought it would be a good idea to have an airshow.
“I don’t know exactly how many people are coming, but we do have pilots from Albany and possibly Perth,” Michael said.
“The community is more than welcome to come along and watch.”
Michael said if the event was successful, he would like to try to run it again.
On Saturday and Sunday, there will be novelty aircraft on show, WWI and WWII re-enactments, flying displays, jet displays and flight simulators.
There is free camping onsite, free entry and morning tea and lunch available.
The event is at 196 Crowea Road, 11km from Northcliffe off Wheatley Coast Road.
