Dusty fans set for a treat
Monique Montez as Dusty Springfield with co-star Deni Hines.

Mandurah Dusty Springfield fans have the chance to hear all their favourite songs live as performers Monique Montez and Deni Hines bring back the magic of soul with The Very Best Of Dusty Springfield tour.

The tour will reach Mandurah on August 3 giving fans time to reconnect with Springfield’s music.

Lead star Montez said she enjoyed becoming the iconic songstress.

‘‘I love the reactions from the audience and that people can sing along to the songs,’’ she said.

‘‘People dress up as Dusty and it is a really fun atmosphere.’’

Montez said she liked the challenge of playing such a recognisable character.

‘‘People expect the same style of phrasing, movements and iconic look,’’ she said.

‘‘I really had to research her, I don’t like to say I am reenacting her, I like to say I channel her.’’

Montez said she never really knew how much Springfield had achieved until she started researching her for the role.

‘‘I didn’t realise how many songs she had sung,’’ she said.

‘‘I have grown to love her more and more.’’

Montez said she enjoys the ‘‘vibe’’ of being on stage, and made her mark through talent quests.

‘‘When I started out there were no Idol TV shows, it was all talent quests, and I was picked up by entertainer Bobby Limb who put me on the Sydney Show Boat,’’ she said.

‘‘The boat was one of the biggest performing platforms in Australia and it led me to perform in many musicals.’’

Montez went on to perform in musicals Saturday Night Fever, We Will Rock You in Japan, Fiddler on the Roof in New Zealand and Dusty the Original Pop Diva in Australia.

The 2011 Dusty tour was loved throughout Australia and spurred the idea for another, which Montez and Hines could not refuse.

‘‘I love performing with Deni, I think she is fabulous,’’ Montez said.

The new tour includes more than 24 hit songs including All I See Is You, Son of a Preacher Man, I Only Want To Be With You, You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me and many more.
