Mother’s hit-and-run fear

A Warnbro mother has revealed her fear after discovering her 15-year-old son was the victim of a hit-and-run during the early hours of Sunday morning.

Leannia Jeanes said an unknown vehicle hit the left side of her son Dominic Ybanez body as he crossed Warnbro Sound Avenue about 12.35am, causing slight amnesia and injuries to his left knee. ‘‘The worst was going through my mind, but I was hoping for the best,’’ she said.

‘‘I don’t understand how they can hit a human being and just leave them there and not even stop and help.’’

Dominic, 15, said he had left a party with a group of friends and was walking towards the bus stop when the incident occurred.

‘‘I was crossing the road and as I was walking back to my mate, there was a car coming down and it sped ahead and came hell fast and hit the left part of my body,’’ he said.

Dominic said the impact of the car caused him to ‘‘fly into the bus lane’’.

He said he was thankful there were residents in the area who helped him.

Ms Jeanes said her son had torn knee ligaments and would find out if he needed surgery next week.

A police spokesman said a man called to report a group of 10 to 15 juveniles on the road after the incident.

‘‘The man said he had heard a bang on the car and was unsure whether he had clipped someone or something was thrown at the vehicle,’’ he said.

The spokesman said inquiries were ongoing.
