Silky Singh scores as United rally late to secure win

Port Hedland United FC's disallowed goal in the second half.

Port Hedland United FC faced Bulgarra Glory of Karratha on the weekend at McGregor Street Oval, and came out 3-1 winners.

United started well, controlling play from early on.

In-form Karel van Rysinge started up front and unsettled Bulgarra with his speed.

His efforts paid off on the 20th minute, when he received a well-placed pass from striker partner John Shannon to tap the ball in the net.

But at 1-0 up, complacency soon set in for United and they let Glory back into the game.

With Declan Barry urging Bulgarra on, it was 1-1 at half-time after Le Phew calmly slotted a goal to restore parity.

The second half was similar to the end of the first, with both teams pushing for their second goal.

With pressure on United to win for the fifth time in a row, they were making it hard for themselves. Carving out chance after chance to take the lead, United had the ball in the back of the net on the 70th minute only for the referee to rule the goal out.

Tim Robertson had headed the ball in from a Wayne Cheung corner while challenging Glory's goalkeeper and the attempt on goal was deemed a foul.

United finally took the lead on the 80th minute.

Jared Ahlers, playing in a makeshift role up front, received a cross from United's Vishal Singh and rounded Glory's goalkeeper to tap the ball in the net.

Glory needed their equaliser and pushed vocal veteran Barry up the field in search of a goal.

But United capitalised and saw the game out.

Singh turned on the skill down the left wing, outclassing a couple of Glory players and teeing up United's sole Italian, Carmine Montano, to smash the ball into the top of the net for a 3-1 win.
