Talking bin also has a practical purpose

The new talking penguin at Tom Price pool needs your help to find a name.

No, you're not hearing things; a talking penguin bin has recently been installed at the Vic Hayton Memorial pool in Tom Price near the baby and toddler pool.

Shire of Ashburton president Cr Kerry White said the idea behind the talking penguin bin was to find a new way to engage children and encourage them to dispose of their rubbish appropriately.

"While there are numerous bins located throughout the pool grounds, the talking penguin bin delights the children as well as allows parents to use the bin while maintaining correct supervision of the babies' pool," she said.

"The talking penguin bin has proved very popular and the children absolutely love it.

"The Shire is proud to see so many children and families respond positively to the issue of correct rubbish disposal."

The Shire is currently running a competition to name the talking penguin.

The _Pilbara News _interviewed the penguin who said he was looking forward to his newfound identity.

The winner's voice will become the voice for the penguin for two weeks, and receive a swimming pool prize pack.

Entry forms can be found at the Shire of Ashburton office on Poinciana Street, Tom Price, WA.
