Dogs intimidate residents

Kariyarra elder Kevin Clifton says wild dog packs and their owners are intimidating fellow residents at Hedland's Tjalka Boorda community, near Styles Road.

Mr Clifton claimed up to 20 dogs roamed free in the community, also known as Three Mile, and that when he complained to the animals' owners, they also became aggressive.

"There is the constant yapping, barking at all hours of the day and night and they attack people on the street," he said.

"If anybody dares do anything against their dogs, then (the owners treat it as) … all-out warfare.

"The dogs (even) take the discarded nappies soiled by babies and eat the contents."

Mr Clifton claimed the number of unlicensed dogs in the community had been an issue since 2009, with Town of Port Hedland rangers stepping in once before to remove them.

However, with dog numbers now regenerating, he said it was again time to ensure all the dogs in the community were microchipped and licensed.

Town of Port Hedland chief executive Mal Osborne confirmed a complaint about the dogs had been filed with his ranger team.
