Karratha police can rightly fluff their feathers with pride after reuniting an allegedly stolen exotic parrot with its owner.

The bird was on its way home within 20 minutes of police posting a picture of a dishevelled male Eclectus parrot on their Twitter page.

Senior Constable, and bird aficionado, Nick Diamond said police acted swiftly after they received intelligence of suspected foul play in the case of a bird suspected stolen.

"It's a big, beautiful bird," he said. "It was in bad condition so we seized the bird and through community help we were able to find the owner and they were here in about 10 seconds."

Sen. Const. Diamond said the parrot had ripped out a bunch of his feathers, which could happen when birds got stressed. It has been seen by vets.

Eclectus parrots can reach prices of above $800.
