Kate Glover from the Shire of Roebourne Ranger Services and the RSPCA gave an educational talk to the Year 1 to 3s at Peg's Creek Primary School on May 23.

Year 3 teacher Rebecca McCallum said the focus of the program was to educate and expose the students to all aspects of safety awareness when coming into contact with animals, and the key responsibilities of pet ownership.

"This included caring for and cleaning up after their dog, dog registration, sterilisation and micro-chipping," she said.

"The students enjoyed Kate's fluffy pooch friend and cleaning up his (plastic) poo. They also gained valuable knowledge of the Ranger Services role within the Shire and Pilbara, with a particular focus on illegal dumping and fire control."

Ms Glover said the students at Pegs Creek Primary School had asked interesting and intelligent questions, and it was great to see a focus on pet safety and ownership linked into the curriculum.
