City to take over running of Kalgoorlie Golf Course

The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder will take over the management of the Kalgoorlie Golf Course on July 1 and the City is gearing up preparations ahead of the takeover.

Prime Golf's contract runs out on June 30 after running the award-winning course since it opened in 2010.

The City is taking over the management as it builds new facilities at the course, including a new clubhouse for the Goldfields Golf Club and an array of community facilities.

Kalgoorlie-Boulder chief executive Don Burnett said most existing staff would be offered jobs in their current positions.

"Senior staff will be offered positions and some will be advertised but most existing staff will be offered jobs at the City for their current duties," he said.

"The position of golf course manager is being advertised this weekend and the best person for the job will be appointed.

"The main task is the transition of staff onto the City payroll and the purchase of machinery, which is currently being quoted on."

Mr Burnett said the City had been looking to other WA local governments for advice on council-run golf courses, including the Town of Cambridge which manages the Wembley golf course.

The City plans to advertise the course management tender once the construction is complete, however, Mr Burnett added "council will consider the options for future management structures in due course".
